Support to NOAA

The SAR Mission Office provides technical support to the NOAA Search and Rescue Satellite-Aided Tracking (SARSAT) Office and other SAR Agencies and Organizations.

The technical support provided to the NOAA SARSAT Office is on both National and International issues.

These issues include:

Implementation of an operational geosynchronous 406 MHz repeater capability  
Operational anomaly investigations  
On-Orbit testing of newly launched SARSAT satellites  
Chair of International Cospas-Sarsat Technical Working Group  
Member of U.S. SARSAT Joint Working Group  
Chair of U.S. Cospas-Sarsat System Evolution Working Group  
Technical guidance on frequency allocation and interference mitigation  
Initiation of the first U.S. Cospas-Sarsat beacon certification laboratory at the U.S. Army Electronic Proving Ground located at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. The official ribbon cutting ceremony for this facility took place in September 1997
