The COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz distress signal 18 miles south of Point Lay, Alaska. A small boat, with three persons on board, encountered high winds and waves, and was swamped. The three persons beached the boat, took shelter in a cabin and activated their PLB. The North Slope Borough Search and Rescue notified the Point Lay Search and Rescue volunteers of the PLB activation. They dispatched a rescue boat to their location. The crew of the rescue boat found everyone from the small boat to be in good health. The small boat was bailed out and towed back to town.

18 NM south of Sabine Pass, Texas
The COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz distress signal 18 NM south of Sabine Pass, Texas. Coast Guard District 8 received the SARSAT alert and launched a helicopter from Air Station Houston. The crew of the helicopter located the fishing vessel American Gulf, with three people on board, which was disabled and without communications. After the American gulf was located, the USCGC Heron was sent to the scene. The Coast Guard vessel was able to restore the disabled vessel’s power and the fishing vessel was able to return to Sabine, Texas.

12 miles southeast of Atgasuk, Alaska
The COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz distress signal 12 miles southeast of Atgasuk, Alaska. The North Slope Borough Search and Rescue launched a helicopter with a medical team to the PLB location. The crew of the helicopter found a man with a broken collarbone. The individual reported that the tie rod on his 4 wheeler had failed and he was tossed to the ground. The patient was stabilized and transported to Barrow, Alaska.
