FEB. 2008 Location of detected distress signal: Description:
2/27/2008 Grand Turk Island The motor vessel Treasure Seeker with six people aboard was taking on water.  Coast Guard District 7 launched a helicopter from Great Inaqua Island to the scene.  The crew of the helicopter was able to vector in a nearby vessel, the Juliette to the Treasure Seeker.  The Juliette recovered all six people from the disabled vessel and transported them to Provo Island, Bahamas.  The disabled vessel was towed to port.

2/23/2008 Nassau, Bahamas Coast Guard District 7 launched a helicopter to the SARSAT location and found the sailing vessel Reality which had run aground.  The vessel’s owner swam to shore.  The crew of the helicopter recovered the individual and transported him to Nassau.

2/21/2008 Barrow, Alaska

Two persons were traveling in a pick up truck from Deadhorse, Alaska to Barrow, Alaska when they nearly ran out of fuel. The outside temperature was minus 30 degrees with white out conditions. North Slope Borough Search and Rescue flew a helicopter to the scene. The helicopter crew located the vehicle. One of the travelers was transported to Barrow to procure fuel. The fuel was brought back to the truck and the travelers continued their journey.

2/18/2008 Myrtle Beach, South Carolina The crew of the Fishing Vessel Bonney Anne had activated their distress beacon after an electrical fire destroyed the vessels battery. Coast Guard District Seven received a SARSAT alert and launched a helicopter to the scene. The helicopter crew hoisted the three persons from the disabled fishing vessel and flew them to safety.

2/13/2008 Long Beach, California

Coast Guard PACAREA Rescue Coordination Center received the SARSAT alert and informed Coast Guard Station Long Beach. The Coast Guard launched a helicopter and a 41 foot boat to assist the Fishing Vessel Little Joe II. The helicopter arrived on the scene and removed the five persons on board, as the boat was taking on water and later sunk. The five persons were in good condition and were transported back to Long Beach.

2/13/2008 New York, New York The crew of the fishing vessel Green Eyes had contacted the Coast Guard via radio that their vessel was taking on water.  When the SARSAT location confirmed the location of the vessel Coast Guard District One launched a helicopter to the scene.  The crew of the helicopter hoisted the three persons from the distressed vessel and flew them to safety.

2/09/2008 Kodiak, Alaska

The 406 MHz EPIRB aboard the F/V Velocity activated when the vessel capsized in 15 foot seas with 28 knot winds gusting to 38 knots.  Coast Guard District 17 Recue Coordination Center received the SARSAT alert and launched a helicopter to the area.  Once the helicopter was on scene the crew deployed a rescue swimmer. They  cut through the vessel's hull to recover the 2 persons on the capsized vessel.  One person was deceased and the other was taken back to Kodiak, Alaska and transported to Providence Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska for medical attention.

2/09/2008 Carmel-By-The-Sea, California The Coast Guard PACAREA Rescue Coordination Center received a radio mayday from the sailing vessel Bobby McGee.  The vessel had run aground with one person on board.  PACAREA launched a helicopter and a small motor boat.  PACAREA requested the operator of the sailing vessel to activate his EPIRB to help find his position.  The COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz distress signal one mile west of Carmel-By-The-Sea, California.  The sailor was brought aboard a Coast Guard boat and brought ashore.  There were no injuries.

2/07/2008 Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic Coast Guard District 7 Rescue Coordination Center received the SARSAT alert and contacted the USCG cutter Valiant which was in the area and asked them to contact the vessel Pisces.  The cutter contacted the vessel and was told that the vessel was taking on water.  The Coast Guard launched a helicopter from Air Station Miami.  The helicopter arrived on scene and the crew lowered a pump to the vessel.  The crew of the helicopter contacted nearby vessels and asked for assistance in aiding the vessel in distress.  Th vessel Lohington responded and picked up the three persons and transported them to St. Martin.

2/03/2008 Atlantic City, New Jersey They radioed in a mayday, and the Coast Guard requested they set off their EPIRB to assist in locating them.  The COSPAS-SARSAT system detected a 406 MHz distress signal 65 NM east of Atlantic City, New Jersey.  The Coast Guard LANTAREA Rescue Coordination Center tasked Air Station Atlantic City to launch a helicopter and the Coast Guard cutter Dependable.  Personnel from the cutter patched the hole in the vessel and assisted in pumping out of the water.  The vessel made its way to port in Atlantic City.

2/02/2008 New Port Richey, Florida The fishing vessel Sea Breeze, with two persons on board, was taking on water.  Coast Guard District Seven Rescue Coordination Center tasked a small boat out of Station St. Petersburg.  The small boat crew rescued the two persons from the distressed vessel.  The vessel partially sank, and was towed to port by Sea-tow.

2/02/2008 Barrow, Alaska Three men left Barrow on three snow machines pulling three sleds with survival gear en route to Inigok.  The engine on one of the snow machines  seized and the man activated his 406 MHz PLB.  North Slope RCC launched a helicopter with two flight crews and two medical crews to the area.  They picked up the man and returned him to Barrow, Alaska.
